Hadzipantela was informed by Italy and presents a report of measures to the CEE

A report with the measures taken by other countries for Covid-19 will be given to the scientists at the meeting that will take place in the afternoon with the Advisory Scientific Committee at the Ministry of Health, said the Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipantela.

The meeting, he said, will focus on the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic, while there will also be an evaluation of the epidemiological picture in China.

In his statements to the journalists on the sidelines of his visit to the General Hospital of Pafos, Mr. Hadjipantela stated that he had already asked the officials of the Ministry of Health to prepare a report for the scientists that would inform them of the measures taken by other countries, and the situation that exists in other European countries.

The Minister of Health said that he had the opportunity to talk today with the Director of the Center for Infections in Italy, about the results of the checks carried out on travelers from China to Italy.

Initially, he said, he will inform the Advisory Scientific Committee and after informing it more information will be given to journalists.

Answering a question, Mr. Hatzipantela said that today and tomorrow, Tuesday, there will be some discussions of the European Commission according to  conversation he had this morning with the European Union Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakidou. He said that it would be good to be informed about the meetings of the European Commission before making decisions.

Paphos Hospital issues

Mr. Hatzipandelas visited the Paediatrics ward of the General Hospital of Paphos and offered symbolic gifts to the children while wishing them a good recovery and a happy new year.

In addition, Mr. Hatzipandelas stated that he will examine with the Management of the Paphos Hospital if there are any minor problems that can with the intervention of the Ministry of Health to provide the necessary solutions.

To a question about the Pediatric ward, the Minister of Health replied that the ward is working but there are some problems which he will examine on site during his visit. In addition, he stated that he will discuss the issue of the capacity of the Pediatric ward with his colleagues and then he will be appointed. Today he said the Pediatric ward has nine available beds.

It was also pointed out by the Executive Director of the Limassol-Paphos Hospitals, Christos Nikolaou, that one of the solutions given today in case of fullness of the Pediatric ward is the transfer of patients during this period to the Limassol Hospital so that they can help each other.

In addition, Mr. Hatzipandelas also referred to the Hemodialysis Unit of the General Hospital of Paphos, noting that it is a pioneering new Unit for which, as he said, he will be informed when it will be ready for the public. He also said that  there is some delay in its operation, but this delay, he noted, will benefit patients.

Some additional changes have been made that will serve patients better, and that is why there is this small delay, he added.  However, he pointed out that according to a preliminary information it is expected to be put into operation in May 2023.
