The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs moves to Geneva
The Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Andreas Kakouris is in Geneva, where on Tuesday he will present, as Head of the Cypriot Delegation, the Report of Cyprus for the Universal Periodic Review on Human Rights (UPR).
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the Universal Periodic Review concerns a mechanism of the Human Rights Council (HRC) and within its framework all the states of the United Nations Organization submit every 4 or 5 years a national report on the state of human rights in the country.
Based on existing practice, the report records the progress of implementation of the recommendations accepted by the evaluated state during the previous presentation of the report.
During his stay in Geneva, Mr. Kakouris will have successive meetings with the Deputy High Commissioner of the United Nations for Human Rights Nada Al Nashif and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
Mr. Kakouris returns to Cyprus on Wednesday.
