The Prosecutor of the Court of Appeals, Panagiotis Meidanis, appealed against the decision of the Athens Council of Criminal Procedure, which concerned the responsibilities for the catastrophic fire in Mati, in the summer of 2018, which claimed the lives of 103 citizens.
Specifically, the Appellate Prosecutor suggested the absolute invalidity of the order of the parliament requesting the continuation of the investigations for five executives, who were then serving in the Fire Brigade, with accusations of felony degree.
As suggested by the Prosecutor of Appeals, the specific provision of the parliament is contrary to the provisions of the law, according to which in order to continue investigative actions to upgrade the category, the competent Prosecutor must first have acted.
